Wetsuit Reincarnation

2022 Program update

Collection on hold

After two years of extensive research and testing Shred Neoprene has made the hard decision to redirect it’s energy back into the Surfriders Wetsuit Reincarnation program! Karen Hendry will still be the lead for this initiative and will continue exploring the opportunities she’s created to recycle this difficult material in Canada. Shred’s dream was to produce a local circular economy product but since this is proving more challenging than expected, more research is needed.

We are still very committed to fulfilling our mission of keeping neoprene out of the landfills, along with recycling all parts of the wetsuit including the zippers! Karen has spent the last two years in Canada collecting, shipping, grinding, and working on a new circular product, and she will continue exploring options.

The collection is on hold and will start up again this Spring 2023! Please hang onto your clean and dry gear till then - we don't like stinky wetsuits any more than you do. Thank You to the Wickaninish Inn for supporting our initiative and donating $5000 in 2021 to support Shreds Recycling Program!

Wetsuits recycled to date: 4.5 tonnes!

If you would like to know more about the recycling program, please reach out to Karen at recyclewetsuits@pacificrim.surfer.org or Sophie at speters@pacificrim.surfrider.org

The base material is created from locally recycled wetsuits!
