RISE ABOVE PLASTICS cOMMITTEE

This volunteer committee is passionate about the prevention of plastic pollution, and working on solutions for our society’s dependence on single-use plastics. This committee involves working with youth, the public, businesses, and government to enact change at various levels. The RAP committee will be involved in all plastics campaigns, they will lead their own projects addressing single-use plastics like bottles, and work with event organizers to help them eliminate single-use plastics and find alternatives. The RAP committee needs to be knowledgeable on the issue as well as determined and hopeful to make positive change.

Take Back the tap committee member

Our Take Back the Tap Campaign is working to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles 1.5L and under from the Pacific Rim! Plastic water bottles are the most common consumer item collected from remote shorelines and are thus a significant item to eliminate as we work to address the plastics crisis. By joining this campaign committee, you’ll be working directly with businesses to support them in eliminating single-use plastic water bottles, as well as assisting with other campaign tactics to increase access to fresh tapwater and educate the public!

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE Members

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for creating a fundraising strategy, as well as brainstorming and executing fundraising projects and associated activities. The committee works with staff to establish a fundraising plan that incorporates a series of appropriate vehicles, such as special events, online fundraising projects, merchandise sales, etc. The committee, along with staff, monitor fundraising efforts to be sure that ethical practices are in place, that donors are acknowledged appropriately, and that fundraising efforts are cost-effective. We’re looking for grant writers, researchers/idea generators, sponsor detectors and folks to support with general fundraising tasks!

 

PROGRAM AND CAMPAIGN RESEARCHER (REMOTE)

Calling all digital nomads and research aficionados passionate about the protection and enjoyment of oceans, beaches and waves! This volunteer role involves supporting current campaigns, and helping to create new ones through preliminary research.As a campaign driven organization we work to create regulatory change to eliminate single-use plastics, address climate change, divert waste from landfill, and adopt regenerative practices. Volunteers can be located in Tofino, Ucluelet, or anywhere else in the world!

Volunteer coordination Committee member

The Volunteer Coordination Committee will work under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator to help with volunteer call-outs and helping to recruit volunteers for specific roles, committees, or events. There is a lot of room for creativity in this committee, so if you like connecting people in the community to issues and activities they are passionate about, this committee is for you!

Communications and Public Relations

This position is ideal for an individual who is passionate about enhancing ocean conservation efforts through communications and public relations! This volunteer role involves managing Surfrider Foundation Pacific Rim’s communications, from social media platforms, press releases, online and print content, advertising, and marketing strategies. This volunteer is part of the Media Committee, and will work closely with the lead of this group, with the aim of growing Surfrider’s audience and impact. This volunteer will gain a comprehensive understanding of all campaigns, programs and events in order to effectively communicate about Surfrider Foundation efforts with the public, and will have the opportunity to build exciting connections within the wild world of media!

 

LOVE YOUR BEACH CLEAN (LYBC) lead

Are you stoked to make a difference in the issue of marine debris on Pacific Rim?

We are looking for an LYBC Lead to coordinate monthly beach cleanups and events on the beach supported by Surfrider Pacific Rim. The Coordinator will ensure the successful operation of the Program and its ability to collect data through the use of the Marine Debris Tracker app through socially distant beach cleans!

EVENTS COORDINATOR

The Events Coordinator is responsible for organizing logistics for Surfrider Pacific Rim events, from behind the scenes details for an event, to assisting the event lead on the day of the event! This volunteer must have an eagle eye for event planning and logistics, and have some experience in event planning, ideally for a diversity of event types. This role is an incredible opportunity to deepen event planning experience, while building relationships in the community, and enjoying all of the freebies, snacks, and other perks associated with events!!

MEDIA COMMITTEE member

Calling all content creators! Are you passionate about photography, videography or graphic design? Do you want to combine the powers of art, design, and conservation to create impact and drive change in your community? If you would love to hit the beach, get out in the community and take photos for social media, the newsletter and website or design eye-catching graphics for event promo and campaign efforts, we would love to hear from you!
